Like many people when I saw that Spider-man was getting the Legends treatment, I inwardly groaned. With the Spiderman Classics line doing so well, and the articulation greatly increasing, I thought we’d be getting something like we already had several of. I was very pleasantly supprised to find a wonderful figure. Not only is the Head piece crucial to build the Sentinel, but the figure is great. The clear display base is perfect and he can almost perfectly mimic his now famous Amazing Fantasy #15 Cover pose.Like I said the articulation is great and the Sentinel piece alone is worth money.

Maestro Hulk is a good figure. I like the character and am glad he was done in the Marvel Legends style. However, he’s too short. The character is 7 feet tall, but doesn’t seem like it when you stand him up next Bishop, Iron Fist, or anyone else from past series. He’s the same body sculpt that was used for Smart Hulk back in the short-lived Hulk Classics series. So, if you stand him up with other Hulks, he will look just fine. In my opinion, if you’re going to make a Hulk-or anyone else-make him the right size. The figure does have great articulation and an excellent paint job. The joints are not too tight and are well concealed on the figure. The details are nice, too. His crown fits his head nicely, but will fall off during play. You could secure it with one of those clear rubber bands that come with action figures these days. Since he is a possible future Hulk, he has plenty of little warts and wrinkles all over his body to show the effects of the radiation and battle his body has endured over the years. He comes with a copy of the last chapter of a 4-part Captain Marvel story. It’s a real recent storyline for older kids, so it has a few, inappropriate 4-letter words in it-which I do not approve of. It’s a sad testament to comics these days that they have to resort to things like that in order to make their characters and plots seem real. They’ll do whatever it takes to get them to sell, I guess. I threw the comic away to keep my kids from reading it. The comic shows very little of Maestro Hulk anyway. And, it’s kind of confusing to just pick it up and start reading the last chapter. You really need the preceding 3 comics to get the benefit of the story. I think they could have picked a better comic. This series is called the Apocalypse Series because, as in past series, the 6 figures have a piece of the 7th, larger figure-Apocalypse. Apocalypse is a 5,000-year-old mutant and an arch nemesis of the X-Men. He turns out to be 14 inches tall and he looks really, really good when he is all assembled. He IS the best one in the series. Most people probably won’t consider the character selection in this series to be the best, so it was a good idea for ToyBiz to release these figures this way. Personally, I love the character selection AND the idea of building another, larger figure. They should continue it in future releases. Everyone will want to put together their own Apocalypse since he was very hard to get when he made his 6-inch appearance in Marvel Legends 7. Maestro is well stocked, so if you want him for the Apocalypse piece or not, you’re still getting a great action figure who plays and displays nicely. But, I only give it 4 stars because he’s too short and the inappropriate words in the comic. They forgot that this toy was recommended for kids as young as 5. I don’t think most people will want their 5 year old reading these kinds of words yet.

When the UPS man arrived at my door today I was psyched to finally have a Marvel Legends version of my favorite X-Man. At first glance the figure looked great. After cutting it out of the package I did find a few inperfections.
The first came when I tried to put the base together, which is in 3 parts. The first is the Sentinal hand, the second is an ice “shaft” that snaps into the hand. The third is the ice platform on which Iceman stands. The platform snapped onto the shaft after a nice hard push. It didn’t seem to fit at first, but once it was on it could be removed and reassembled with no problems. However, the peg on the hand didn’t fit into the hole on the bottom of the shaft. This may only be a problem with mine, but it’s very frustrating. It barely stays together. As an optimist (one of the last of a dying breed, thank you Generation X) I always find the brighter side of things. Since Marvel Legends are generally used for display and not play, this problem should only occur a few times. It will stay together well enough for display.
The second probem was the difficulty I had actually getting him to pose on his base. It’s a very awkward base that really only allows for one type of pose, the pictured on the reverse side of the packaging. However, that particular pose is nearly impossible to accomplish. His hands won’t stay in the ice slots provided for them. Also, the actual stance in which he is to stand is also difficult to accomplish.
I give this toy 4 stars, which is pretty generous. My actual grade would be about a 3.25 or thereabouts.

If anyone wants to be inspired, the WWII version of the captain is a home run. This is the second toy of Captain America in his WWII uniform. The first is the Marvel Selects. I’m not a select fan because of the limited articulation, but they do look nice. This particular toy has 25+ points of articulation without any sacrifice to the look and detail of the figure. The captain comes with a removable helmet, supply vest, 2 fire arms and his signature badge shaped shield. The only thing that annoyed me is the pain detail in his mouth. I guess the paint machine is broken because there is too much black pain in his mouth. I suppose they want to show his individual teeth, but it just looks like he just bit someones and swallowed a mouthful of blood. SO GRAB THE 2 PAC SET WHERE CAPTAIN AMERICA LOOKS NORMAL!!!!Nick Fury looks great too. 2 pistols and one big gun. The best part is that all of the accessories are interchangeable. You can have cap. hold nicks weapons and if you are so inclined, have him wear Fury’s coat. Bottom line. This is a great buy and is truly inspiring to look at.

I have a 3 year old and we have tried some of the bigger Transformers (quick conversion Bumblebee, etc) and he LOVES these little Transformers Legends action figures. They are easy to figure out and put together so well that they run down race tracks very cleanly and fast. The cheapest Transformers that you can buy, we have bought him Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Optimus Prime, and Megatron. I wouldn’t buy any other Transformers toys!
